What to know about blackface:What is blackface?
The word blackface is used to refer to an image of an African American face in which the eyes, lips and nose are dark and the mouth is curled in a slight downward smile.
It is typically used to describe an African-American man who has an exaggerated facial expression or mannerisms.
Blackface is also sometimes called the “face that does not exist,” a derogatory term used to dismiss an African man’s appearance or identity.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 80% of African Americans do not have a melanoma.
African-American men are twice as likely to die from melanoma as white men, and nearly 50% of black women have a skin cancer.
The CDC estimates that blacks suffer from melanomas at a rate 10 times greater than the rate for white people.
Black people are also more likely to have multiple skin cancers, according to the National Cancer Institute.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services estimates that about 30% of people in the United States have skin cancer, and that the number of people with cancer will more than triple in the next 10 years.
The numbers are especially high for African Americans.
Black women are three times more likely than white women to have skin cancers and five times more than Hispanic women to suffer from skin cancer in their lifetime.
More from CNN Health on Blackface:African-Americans are the most affected, the CDC said.
African Americans are also at a higher risk for skin cancer and melanoma because they have a higher rate of certain types of melanoma, according the CDC.
“We don’t know why, but it may be because of the environment we’re living in,” said Dr. Thomas R. Schoenfeld, the director of the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics.
“We’re more exposed to things like cigarette smoke, exposure to certain foods, things that don’t always come from a clean environment, so we have higher melanoma risk.”
Dr. Schenfeld said the CDC has been looking at the ways that the CDC is trying to change the way people view African Americans, and how they talk about them.
“It is our goal to be more understanding of our African American community and our African-Americans and to better understand how we can work with them to help improve their lives,” he said.
